THE PAULS FOUNDATION SETS UP RALPH ARNOLD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Pauls Foundation has established a scholarship in memory of its director, Mr. Ralph Arnold, at two Chicago institutions. The foundation has endowed $100,000 in Arnold's name at The Chicago Academy for the Arts, Chicago's high school for the performing and visual arts. A $50,000 endowment was arranged at Loyola University of Arts and Sciences, where an unnamed donor has equally matched the scholarship.
Ralph Arnold, a professor whose love of the arts transcended his professional life passed away on May 10, 2006. He was a longtime friend of foundation Chairman Paul Mavros and served as a member of the Pauls Foundation board. Mr. Arnold was a resident of Chicago and served as Chairman of the Fine Arts Department and Professor Emeritus at LoyolaUniversity. Mr. Arnold was a mentor of Loyola University College of Arts and Sciences Dean, Dr. Isiaah Crawford, who was instrumental in setting up the endowed scholarship in Ralph Arnold's name. Mr. Arnold also loved the ChicagoAcademy for the Arts and served as a Trustee of the institution. |

Mr. Arnold was also an accomplished visual artist and collector. He was a longtime member of the Illinois Arts Council. His knowledge and love the art world is greatly missed by the foundation.
Arnold was a rare individual, however his almost lifelong relationship with Chicago silversmith and fellow Pauls Foundation Board Director, William Frederick, was rarer still. The two were interviewed by Chicago Magazine in 2004 about their relationship which lasted over 50 years. They said that they felt they had a "Civilized Union" staying together despite an often disapproving world building a life for themselves marked by love and fidelity.
The Pauls Foundation was founded by reinsurance executive, Paul Mavros, in the mid-1980's to help fund arts organizations. A gift to the Ralph Arnold Memorial Scholarships may be made directly to the institutions where scholarship funds have been established:
